Phoenix Sisters Cities Welcomes Anne Thorne,
New Commission Member

Presented by the Windsor Square Historic District neighborhood, the biennial Historic Home and Garden tour is a self-guided walking tour featuring wonderfully restored historic homes and gorgeous manicured gardens.

The breathtakingly beautiful Windsor Square neighborhood is rich with history with many homes that are 60 to 75 years old. Started in 1929, the 260-home neighborhood is considered to be one of the first few suburbs of the city of Phoenix.

One of the featured homes is that of business entrepreneur and neighborhood resident, Anne Thorne. The home was originally built in 1953. Upon acquiring the home in 2013, Thorne completed a complete renovation with modern amenities while maintaining the character and charm of the classic neighborhood.

The floor plan was opened up creating a show case kitchen centerpiece surrounded by inviting indoor and outdoor entertainment areas.

The tour and festivities give enthusiasts a look at unique architectural styles in homes that date back to the 1930s and 1940s. During the self-guided walking tour, participants may explore fine arts and crafts from street vendors, enjoy delicious fare from food trucks and hear live music.

In the past 111 years, more than 119 known Arizona heroes lost their lives in the line of duty. Recent losses include fire fighters, paramedics, forest service personnel and others, all dedicated to protecting Arizona citizens from fire, flood and accidents. The Arizona Firefighters & Emergency Paramedics Memorial is a living memorial honoring early deaths and, sadly enough, preparing for
continuous growth.

Throughout the project, Anne Thorne donated time
and professional expertise to inform the community
about the project and assist with critical fund
raising efforts.

The Memorial is located in the Wesley Bolin Memorial
Plaza, near 17th Avenue and Washington Street in
downtown Phoenix.
